If you're serious about doing the twelve weeks of Julia Cameron's method, you need the paper book. Not a PDF, not an ebook either if you can help it. You need an object that you can underline, turn corners, write in the margins, and reopen three years later for a random page. This post is the complete guide to finding it: the editions that circulate, where to buy it new and second-hand, and the Spanish and Latin American libraries where they have it cataloged so you can borrow it for free.
The book has been in circulation since 1992 (the original English edition was published that year) and has been translated into Spanish in several reissues. The publisher is Aguilar, imprint of Penguin Random House Editorial Group. If you go into a neighborhood bookstore and ask for "The Artist's Way, by Julia Cameron, Aguilar," they will find it or order it for you within 48 hours. If you want to know where it is available right now without leaving home, keep reading.

Second-hand: save up to 70%
If you want to save and you don't mind if the book has underlining or previous notes, the second hand can cost you €5-€10 instead of €19. Reliable platforms:
- Abebook — Spanish version of AbeBooks. Dozens of copies of The Artist's Way between €4-€12. Sellers are professional bookstores, comes with warranty.
- Wallapop — search for "Cameron Artist's Path." There are usually 5-10 active copies in Spain. Prices €3-8. Hand pick up or shipping.
- Todocolección — especially for old or out-of-print editions.
- Uniliber — adds used bookstores from all over Spain.
- Flea markets and libraries with book markets — some libraries hold annual bazaars; With luck you get The Artist's Way for €2.
Trick: buy a used copy where you can see the underlining of whoever read it before. Sometimes the notes of others show you paths of interpretation that you had not thought of.
Audiobook and ebook (legal)
If you prefer digital format, the authorized options are:
- Storytel — audiobook platform with monthly subscription. They have the Spanish version narrated professionally. Free 14-day trial is usually available.
- Audible (amazon) — The catalog in Spanish includes the narration of the book. 30-day free trial available, then monthly subscription.
- Kobo / Tagus Book House — ebook version compatible with its readers.
- amazon Kindle — the Kindle version of the book usually costs €9-12. Compatible with any Kindle device, mobile or web app.
- Google Books — electronic version of Google Play.
- AppleBooks — available in the Apple ecosystem.
- eBiblio (Spain) — If you have a public library card, eBiblio allows you to digitally borrow the ebook for free for 21 days.
"Buying the book is the first of many investment decisions you will make in your own creativity."
About the free PDFs that circulate on the internet
If you have come to this post looking for "The Artist's Way PDF for free", honest notice: the PDFs that you will find on the internet are unauthorized copies. The book is under active copyright (Penguin Random House) and download them:
- It is illegal in most Spanish-speaking countries (Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Chili, Colombia)
- It is usually hosted on sites with aggressive advertising or malware
- Lose the clean OCR and the original layout
- It hurts the author — Julia Cameron is still alive and depends on royalties
- Loses the tactile experience that the method requires (underlining, writing notes)
If your problem is budget, the legal and free options are your public library (unified catalog search.gob.es for Spain) or the eBiblio digital loan. If your problem is geographic access, look at the amazon Kindle ebook (~€10) or WorldCat.
If you want to delve deeper into the PDF issue, we wrote a complete post on the subject: The Artist's Way PDF: where to find it and legal alternatives.
How to choose your edition
My recommendation depending on the situation:
- If you have never read the book and are going to do the 12 weeks: buy the new Aguilar 2022 edition (~€19). Underline it. He will be your companion for 3 months.
- If you want to give it to someone: 25th anniversary edition if you can find it, or the 2022 edition with a nice notebook (Moleskine or Leuchtturm) for the morning pages. Round combo.
- If you have a tight budget: first public library (free). Then Wallapop or Abelibro (€5-10). Then new books.
- If you travel a lot: Kindle ebook. It's the only exception to "read on paper" — a Kindle can fit in your pocket.
- If you have vision problems: audiobook on Storytel or Audible for the first listen, and then buy paper to go back to specific parts.
And if you buy the book, what comes next?
Having the book is the first step. The second is to read it. The third is do it: morning pages each day, appointment with the artist each week, exercises from each chapter. Doing it alone is difficult. Half of the people who buy the book abandon it between weeks 3 and 5. That's why we created Your Artist's Path: a free online course that structures the 12 weeks, sends you daily reminders, and connects you with other people who are doing it at the same time.
If you buy the book, we recommend starting the course the same day. It goes hand in hand. Chapter reading + daily exercises + community. The chances of finishing it are tripled.
